An integrative cancer treatment and research center in Tijuana, Mexico, Oasis of Hope combines conventional and alternative methods to treat a wide range of cancers. Oasis of Hope’s primary approach utilizes the Contreras Alternative Cancer Treatment (C-ACT), a treatment protocol that addresses cancer on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level.

C-ACT elements include cell redox regulatory therapy, which relies on modifying the body’s amount of oxidative stress, an imbalance between the production of free radicals and the body’s ability to counteract their harmful effects. While the cells of many cancers require a moderate amount of oxidative stress to multiply, they also cannot survive in environments high in oxidative stress. Physicians take advantage of this weakness by prescribing high doses of intravenous vitamin C with vitamin K and Perftec in order to produce high levels of peroxide in tumors, which increases oxidative stress. The peroxide becomes lethal to tumors without harming normal tissues that have adequate defenses against antioxidants.

Cell redox regulatory therapy at Oasis of Hope presents a new approach to the treatment by using antioxidants and oxidant scavengers (also called free radicals) to reduce or block the production of oxidants in cancer cells. A home treatment plan, the therapy helps slow the growth of tumors and mitigate the spread of cancer.
